Mr. Robert Rees Sweitzer, age 81, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 5, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Rees, as he was known, was born in Eston, Saskatchewan. While still living in Eston he went on to marry the love of his life, Judy Sweitzer (Lonnberg). They had three sons, Michael, Murray and Corey.

Rees was a certified prosthetist who worked in Saskatoon and Winnipeg before moving the family to Thunder Bay in late 1979 to be a partner in Thunder Bay Orthopaedics. He later opened his own business, Northland Prosthetics.

He is survived by his three sons Michael (Francie), Murray (Fernanda) and Corey (Shauna) along with his 9 grandchildren; also sisters Gail, Janice and brother Don who remain out west. He was predeceased by his wife Judy Sweitzer, and brother Obert Sweitzer.

We would like to make a special acknowledgement to Dr. Tassone, Dr. Bezanson and his homecare nurse Kyle Sidal. Thank you. Your efforts made the last few months of his life significantly better. Our family cannot express just how much your contributions meant.

As per his wishes there will be no service, but a celebration of his life will take place on Friday April 7, 2023 at the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton on 760 Arthur Street West from 1 -4 pm. Family and friends are welcome to drop in, visit and share some stories.

A private family Internment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to TBRHSC – Northern Cancer Fund - https://www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca/cancer-donate.
