Dr. Robert Walter Hogarth, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away April 10, 2017. Walter was born in Fort William, Ontario, where he attended Isabella Street School and Fort William Collegiate Institute, then going on to the University of Western Ontario where he obtained a B.A. and MD.
He completed his residency in urology at the Montreal General Hospital, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, as well as a member of the Canadian Urological Association and the Northeast section of the American Urological Association. He practiced urology until retiring in 1996.
On December 12, 1959 he married his wife, Barbara Hossie, at the Christ Church Cathedral in Vancouver. Walter was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. In his leisure time, Walter maintained the family tree farm that his grandfather started which he later donated to Lakehead University for use by the Forestry Department.
He also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Amethyst Harbour. Walter is survived by his wife, Barbara, children Sharon (Denis) Thibault of Ottawa, Walter (Gail) Hogarth of Red Deer, Margaret Hogarth of Calgary and Jeanne (Gilbert) Kahara of Thunder Bay. Also survived are grandsons Christopher, David, Jonathan and Robert Thibault, Stephen, Michael and David Hogarth, Benjamin and Joseph Kahara as well as great grandson Zackary Thibault. Robert is predeceased by parents Walter Piper Hogarth and Margaret (Shortill) Hogarth, and brother Frederick Hogarth.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church celebrated by Rev. Susan Mattinson. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening April 17, 2017 in the Blake Funeral Chapel from 6-8:00 p.m.
