With heavy hearts, the family of Roman Izydorczak announce his passing on February 22, 2018 after a brief illness.

Roman was born to Helena and Josef Izydorczak and raised in the core area of Port Arthur along with many other families who immigrated to Canada. He attended St. Andrew’s School and Hammarskjold High School.

He was employed by Manitoba Pool Elevators, Great West Timber and J.D. Barnes Surveyors where he especially enjoyed the solitude and quiet of working in the forest.

Roman had many interests, which included music, fishing, golfing, and reading of history and politics. Roman was very athletic and excelled at recreational and competitive billiards.

He was predeceased by his parents, Helena and Josef Izydorczak. Three siblings in Thunder Bay survive him: his sisters Dawna Barrow (Les) and Krystyna Leroux (Danis) and his brother Jerry (Michele). Roman is also survived by his brother, Reinhold Gagatek and family in Germany. He leaves as well 4 nieces: Krystyna Cappello, Angela Cappello, Kate Leroux and Jessica Leroux, plus 2 grandnieces, Alya Dove and Alice Murphy and 1 grandnephew, Silas Dove.

Roman’s lifetime friends, especially Dwight Creed, maintained a deep loyalty to their friend, whom they remember fondly for his keen wit and unique sense of humour. He will also be warmly remembered by Karen Neva.

Roman, very much a gentle soul, lived a quiet, often solitary life in his latter years. As such, a private memorial service will be held at a later date with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

If friends desire, charitable donations to the Dew Drop Inn or Thunder Bay Humane Society is appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com

Peacefully, sleep comes to a dear, beloved heart. Quietly, we understand it is time to part. Tenderly, the love shines on - a never ending light. Gratefully, we feel its warmth and say,
“Sweet dreams, dear Romush”.
