It is with profound sadness that the family of Ronald Lawrence DePiero announces his passing on Sunday January 31st at Hogarth Riverview Long Term Care.
Born in 1927 to Maria and Joseph DePiero, Ron was the youngest of seven children. Growing up in Westfort, he loved sports and the company of many life long friends. He spent his career of over 40 years at Great Lakes Forest Products, and upon retiring, devoted his time to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He loved to spend his free time curling at the Fort William Curling Club, golfing at the Fort William Country Club, taking morning swims at the Canada Games Complex and tending to his garden.
In 1950 Ron married the love of his life, Elsie Moro. He would often say that without her, he would be nowhere in life. The couple recently celebrated 70 years of marriage and have always been inseparable. Together they raised their three children, Joe, Penny (Greg) Stirrett, and Donna (Rod) Peltonen. His pride and joy were his four grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Lucas Peltonen and his children Ainsley and Tyler, Russel (Charlene) Peltonen, Leslie (Dane) Hatton and their children Bo and Cal, and Jennie (Billy) Boquist and their children Ryan and Grant. Ron’s later years were never happier than when he was with his family.
Ron was a life long member of St. Agnes Parish. Cremation has taken place and with the limits of COVID restrictions, a private family service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Joe Behse, Dr. K Skunta, and all of the staff at Hogarth 2 North Lavender.
Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Underground Gym- a cause very close to Ron’s heart, or a charity of one’s choice.
Ron was a man larger than life, he loved nothing more than to make others laugh and his happiness and zest for life were infectious. Our lives are all brighter for having known him. Nono, we will miss you always, but you will be forever in our hearts.
