Ron Pilley of Sister Leila Greco Apartments (formerly of Elmwood Crescent) passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on August 12, 2015 with his family at his side.
Ron was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the second son of Frank and May Pilley and moved to Port Arthur as a young child. He received his education at Cornwall School and Port Arthur Technical High School.
As a young man of 15 years, he started work at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and retired 47 years later at age 62. He served in World War II from 1942 to 1946, serving an extra year so that the men with children could go home.
He was a long time volunteer at Shelter House and St. Vincent de Paul. He was a member of St. Dominic’s Church, where he did the planting of flowers in the spring for many years. He enjoyed numerous outings and countless coffees with good friend Frank Brewer. Ron is lovingly remembered by daughter Jan, sons Glenn (Anne) and Michael (Carol), and grandchildren Michael (Pamela Stewart), Ryan, Brooke (Melinda Charette), Matt (Erin), and Bonnie Grant (Ian). He adored his great-grandchildren Draggan, Charlotte, Jasper, Aiden, Henry, Phoebe, and Maddox. He is survived by sister-in-law Saini Pilley. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA.
He is predeceased Phoebe, his wife of 63 years, his parents, brother Ken, sisters-in-law Rita, Nora, Ursula, and Mary, and brothers-in-law Jim, Harley, Henry, and Gordon. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Dominic’s Church (Redwood Avenue). Private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Care Group or the charity of your choice.
Ronald Pilley will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
