Rosa (Rosina Ruberto) Stella

It is with deep sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of our mother Rosa (Rosina Ruberto) Stella, aged 86 years at her Pioneer Ridge Residence on Friday, September 16, 2016, lovingly surrounded by her children.

Rosa was born in Sambiase, Calabria, Italy on May 15, 1930. She married Francesco Stella on February 7, 1951 in Italy. With her daughter Josephine, she moved to Port Arthur in February, 1953 to join Frank who had immigrated to Canada the previous year.

Mom had many interesting jobs, at which she made many lifelong friends. Time spent with her grandchildren was cherished and she loved cooking elaborate meals for her family.

Rosa is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her children: Josie (Mike) Spivak, Tony (Lois) and Frank Jr. Grandma will be greatly missed by grandchildren Santo Bitonte, Kristopher (Hong Kong), Matthew (Ottawa) and Sarah (Ottawa) Stella. She is also survived by brothers: Vincenzo (Francesca), Sam (Nina), Frank (Annette), and John Ruberto. Surviving also are: sisters-in-law Giovanna Folino (Italy) and Teresa Calleri and brother-in-law Joe DeFazio.

Rosa was predeceased by husband Frank, a son in infancy, her parents Maria and Vincenzo Ruberto, sister: Giovanna Roberto, Francesca Ruberto, and Carmela DeFazio. She was predeceased by in laws Giuseppina and Frank Stella, 7 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law and 1 niece.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 when family and friends will gather at St. Anthony's R.C. Church at 10:30 am, celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini.

A private interment to follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 pm.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Rosa can be made to Pioneer Ridge Home for the Aged-Butterfly Garden, a place Rosa liked to visit to relax..reflect and reminisce.
