The family of Rose Elcheson (nee Slobodzian) sadly announce her peaceful passing on February 17, 2024 at her home at Southbridge Roseview at the age of 97.  Born in Fort William, Ontario on September 14, 1926, she grew up on the family farm in Stanley.  She married her dear Johnny and they moved to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) where they worked together to provide a good life for their family.

Her family and friends were most important to her and she lovingly welcomed everyone into her home and at her table for a meal or a cup of tea.  Rose was happiest when she was gardening, cooking, going to yard sales, or supporting her family in their various activities.  She was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Women's League for over 50 years and she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for many years until age 86.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Susan Thompson (Lynn), Joan Thompson (Sid), Carol Elchuk (Bill); her son, Robert Elcheson (Yvonne); grandchildren Jason, Joel, Jennifer, Natasha, Tanya, Nicholas, Joshua, Jessica, Brandon, Chad, Alex;  great grandchildren Steven, Jordan, Miguel, Lita, Tessa, Seth, Kash, Melanie, Annie, Piper, Mira, Zyta, Carmen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband, John Elcheson (1997), parents, Peter and Eugenia Slobodzian; brothers, Joseph and Steve Slobodzian; sisters, Pauline Elcheson and Helen Serkowney.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on Celeste ward at Roseview.  Our mother was very appreciative of the compassionate care and friendship you provided to her over the past four years.

A  Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Church, 88 Clayte Street with Fr. Ciaran Donnelly officiating. There will be visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the Mass.  A luncheon will be held in the church hall after the service followed by interment at St. Andrew's Cemetery.

If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Action Centre St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph's Foundation of Thunder Bay, or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
