Ruth Spittlehouse
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother Ruth on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.

Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 27, 1926. She moved to Port Arthur in 1952 to start a family. In her younger years mom enjoyed curling, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing. Summer months were always spent at the family camp on Shebandowan Lake. Her children’s friends would always show up to mom’s kitchen for her freshly baked cinnamon buns. Ruth pioneered a love for summers at Shebandowan that spread to her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Mom was also an avid bridge player and had a very close group she played with for many years. Travel was a big part of her life which included trips to England, Scotland, Italy as well as a memorable cruise around Australia. Her favourite place to visit was Cape Cod, travelling to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Here she would visit her sister and family a number of times.

Mom is survived by her four children, Jeff, Janet (Mark) Middaugh, Dale (Tony) Di Casmirro and Val Pankhurst. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren Kyle and Katie, Lindsay (Pat), Sean, Dana (Darren), Jamie (Joey), Kelsey (Craig), Nicholas, Gordon, and Robert. Mom was also blessed with six great-grandchildren Elloise, Eleanor and Bennet, Joseph and Adeline, and Cooper. Mom is also survived by her adoring sister Mary Ellen Bowley. Also survived by nieces and nephews in Victoria, Nelson B.C., Carolina’s and Martha’s Vineyard. She is predeceased by her parents Edgar and Kathleen Harden, brother Bill (Audrey) Harden, and brother-in-law David Bowley.

Mom’s last few years living at the Walford Retirement Home were very special thanks to the wonderful and supportive residence and staff.

Cremation has taken place. As per mom’s request, there will not be a funeral. A private interment will take place at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
