It is with great sadness that the family announce the peaceful death of Ruth Katherine Chapman, 100 years, at Southbridge Pinewood on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. She was born June 28, 1921 in Port Arthur, ON and just celebrated her 100th Birthday with her family.
Ruth is survived by her children Charles (Chuck) Chapman (Heather Brown), Guelph, ON, Katherine Madge, Maple Ridge, B.C., William (Bill) Chapman (Marilyn), St. Thomas, ON, Christine Jonasson (Ken), Thunder Bay, ON, 9 grandkids and 17 great grandkids.
Predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Gerard Charles Chapman, her parents Frederick and Priscilla Blackie, brothers Russell Blackie and George Blackie, sisters Bertha Christiansen and Mary Bay. Also 3 siblings at infancy.
Ruth was an accomplished sewer and worked for years at McKellar Hospital sewing room. She then worked summers at the Lands and Forest planting trees.
She worked for a while at Singer Sewing Centre. Ruth was a good driver and drove school bus and charters for Turner Bus Lines until her retirement.
She was very involved in the West Arthur Community Centre. She helped establish the hockey club for the kids. She was a Boy Club leader. She was an avid gardener and loved animals. She raised rabbits and Persian cats. She raised Boston Terriers for over 30 years. She went to many dog shows and won many Best of Breeds and group placings.
She loved to entertain and had many family dinners. She loved to sew, quilt, knit, crochet and needlework. She made many trips in her motor home to pick blueberries and attend dog shows.
In her later years, she knitted hundreds of hats which we donated to Grace Place and the hospital. We have many pieces of her knitting and her quilts grace her children¹s and grandkids¹ beds.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, September 30th at Harbourview Funeral Centre. Visitation at 11:00 a.m., Funeral Services at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery. If you wish to attend, phone Jenkens Funeral Home at 623-3433.
