It is with great sadness that we announce that Ruth Makris, resident of 306-225 Ross St, Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at the TBRHSC Transitional Care Unit on Monday, February 19, 2024, with her daughter Debbie at her side. Ruth was born on October 27, 1936 in Winnipeg, but moved to Fort William, Ontario at an early age. She grew up in Vickers Heights, where she enjoyed many outdoor activities.

Ruth worked as a waitress and Nurse's Aid before marrying James Makris (Jim). After the birth of their daughter, Debbie, Ruth worked as a driver for Crooks Pharmacy. Later, she enjoyed doing demos at
Safeway, greeting customers with her big smile. She loved to drive, going coast to coast, down to Florida for the winter, or to Grand Valley to visit Aunt Cathleen and get a new car. She enjoyed travelling, camping and fishing with John and Joyce, Bea, Bill and Roy. She met many wonderful friends when she became an active member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1338. There were trips to Hinckley with cousin and special friend, Shirley, Friday night dances with Helen and Bernice; biking with Olga, and playing bingo and cards at the Legion Manor. You were always welcome at Ruth's place.

Predeceased by her husband Jim Makris, parents Margaret and Edgar Paige, sisters Grace Christensen and Emily Carlson, mother-in-law Agnes Soucey, sister-in-law Anne Wade, brother-in-law John Makris. Survived by her daughter Debbie Andony (Terry), sister Saundra St. Jean, brother Ed Christensen, sister Joyce Larabee (Jim), brother-in-law Ernie Wade, niece Susan Wade, and many cousins and friends.

Thank you to the health care team at TBRHSC Transitional Care Unit for their excellent and compassionate care, and to Noella for helping Ruth stay in her home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The War Amps, or to a local homeless organization of your choice.
