Mrs. Saima (Saimi) Raakel Suutari (nee Maunula), age 93 years, passed away peacefully in Bethammi Nursing Home on Wednesday, October 26, 2016.
Saimi was born in Finland on March 30, 1923. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and daughters in 1951. Following the death of her first husband, Saimi met Heikki Suutari. They were married and had a son together.
She dedicated her life to taking care of her family. Saimi enjoyed knitting, cooking and gardening. She was a long time member of Hilldale Lutheran Church.
Saimi will be deeply missed by her daughters Kaija Maki (Veijo and his children Kirsi and Taisto) and Leena McCartney, son Henry Suutari (Kathy); grandchildren Corinne (Morris), John, Laura (Paul) and Pat Jr. as well as one brother, Vaino Maunula. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Finland and Canada also survive.
She was predeceased by her husband, Heikki; her first husband Veikko Uusikartano; her parents and siblings.
The family would like to thank the staff of Bethammi Nursing Home for all of the care and comfort you provided to Mom. She thought you were truly special and wonderful people.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Saimi Suutari will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 11:00AM in Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Road with Pastor Jari Lahtinen officiating. Private interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to service time. Following the services, a reception will be held in the parish hall.
