“A limb has fallen from our family tree."

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our “Papa” –husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and talented gardener. Salvatore Loffredo passed away on December 4, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Salvatore was born on March 10, 1926 in Piedimonte d’Alife, Italy to Alessandro and Doretta Loffreda. He married Livia Caso in 1949 in Italy and later immigrated to Port Arthur, Canada in 1958. He worked for the railway, and various construction jobs before starting at Port Arthur General Hospital where he worked for 22 years before retiring in 1989.

Salvatore was hard-working and spent his leisure time expanding vegetable gardens in any space he had available. He would spend hours planting, weeding, caring and picking vegetables he grew in his gardens and greenhouses. He enjoyed spending time with family in his garden, cleaning items from the garden for them or even preparing things to eat . He looked forward to his frequent grocery shopping excursions and being able to find a good deal. When not outdoors in the garden, he could be found keeping track of a variety of sports scores and game shows and cheering or yelling at the t.v.

Salvatore is survived by his wife Livia Loffredo, sons Sandy (Sylvia), Raffaele (Julie), Bruno (Judy), Frank (Leola), grandchildren Carrina, Marlena, Jamie, Patrice, Bronson, Luca, Lia, Luke, Jesse, Cody, and Nikko, great-grandchildren Natasha, Aiden, Aria, Anthony and Finnley. He is predeceased by his parents and more recently his daughter Julia Loffredo.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 when family and friends are invited to gather in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, with visitation beginning at 1:00 and a Ceremony to follow at 2:00 pm with Fr. Luigi Filipini offciating. Private entombment will be in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Joseph's Hospice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
