With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Sandra Marie Metelnick at Bethammi Nursing Home in Thunder Bay on February 20, 2023.

Born April 18, 1940, home for Sandra was Nestor Falls in Northwestern Ontario. She attended high school in Fort Frances where she met her lifelong friend, Jackie. At a very young age they both went off to Teachers’ College in North Bay, returning to pursue careers in teaching that began in Fort William/Port Arthur.

This is also where she met and married her husband, Jack Metelnick. Together they made Thunder Bay their home, raised their family and enjoyed a full life. Not one to sit idle, Sandra was very proficient at sewing, knitting, crocheting and making beautiful quilts, including designing beautiful wall hangings that are truly works of art.

Sandra is predeceased by her two sons, Michael and Christopher, her parents Helen and Fred Wensley, mother-in-law Frances Ronnback (Eskil), father in law John Metelnick, as well as brothers David, Brian, Alan and sisters in law Bernice and Betty and brother in law Robert.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband Jack, brothers Ronnie (Polly) and Dennis (Maggie), sister Cathy (Marcel), and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She’s like the swallow that flies so high,
She’s like the river that never runs dry,
She’s like the sunshine on the lee shore,
I love my love but my love is no more.

We will all miss you and your beautiful smile.

Cremation has taken place with interment to take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
