Santina Copetti
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Nonna (grandmother) and great grandmother Santina Maria Copetti on January 14, 2021 with family at her bedside. Santina was born in Ospedaletto Gemona del Friuli, Italy on April 30, 1928. She met the love of her life Tarcisio and they married on February 18, 1950. Dad immigrated to Canada in 1953 to seek a better life for his family and mom followed him in 1954 with two young sons Renato and Gilbert and later welcomed two daughters Eleonora and Marina in Thunder Bay. It was hard for mom with a language barrier but she managed to learn quickly. With no family support she eventually overcame many obstacles and made many new friends. Her passion to keep a tidy home so clean you could eat off of her floor, provide delicious meals and tend to a beautiful productive garden were some of her talents. She proudly planted her yearly flowers in cement pots that were made especially for her by our dad. Mom was a very gifted seamstress and knitter. We will miss her homemade vegetable soups, meatballs, beef rollini, bread and pannetone. Her most memorable vacations were going to Mexico, Italy and Texas.

Mom was a very strong and determined woman and had her stubborn ways but she had a heart of gold for her family. Dad brought out her sense of humour with his jokes and stories which she joked about after his passing with fond memories. She also loved listening to music and watching her Latino soap operas. Mom’s love and dedication for dad showed in the years she devoted herself to caring for him at home day and night when he became sick and we respect her and thank her for all her devotion.

Mom will be sadly missed by her children Renato (Ann), Gilbert (Diane), Eleonora (Paul), and Marina: grandchildren Adriano (Meghan), Danyle; Michael (Jen), Jason (Jenny) and Vanessa; Angelo (Ana), Nadia (Val), Sylvia (Kyle); Lance (Brittany) and Sabrina; great grandchildren Nolan and Kendra; Carter and Owen; Nicholas and Andrew; Olivia and Matthew; Nathan, Luke and Owen. Survived by her sister Sandra and many nieces and nephews in Italy.

Predeceased by her husband Tarcisio, granddaughter Paulina, sons in law George and Vince; parents Giobatta and Maria Canciani, sister Luigia, brothers Angelo, Giuseppe and Diego.

Special thanks to the caring staff of Hospice, Palliative care unit at St Joseph’s hospital; Homecare staff of Carepartners, LHIN Homecare services and the long years of care from Dr. Toppin and the friendly staff of Meals on Wheels and to all the support and prayers from special friends and family.

In lieu of flowers; family requests donations of your choice in memory of Santina Copetti. A live stream of the funeral service will be aired on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 at 1:00 pm on the Blake Funeral Chapel Facebook page (www.facebook.com/BlakeFuneralChapel)
