With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Mr. Santo Pellegrino, age 70 years, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, March 25, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Santo was born in Acri, Cosenza, Italy on January 3, 1947. Along with his wife and daughter he immigrated to Canada on June 27, 1972.

Shortly after arriving he began his career in construction, and was well known in the community for his cement craftsmanship.  He also enjoyed a lengthy career at Bombardier, from which he retired after 25 years.

Santo enjoyed many hobbies including being a master gardener and avid fisherman.  He was a lifelong member of the Italian Hall where he loved meeting friends for card games and volunteering for events.

Santo will be sadly missed by daughters Franca (Domenic), Daniella, Anita (Ron) and granddaughter Miranda Turk.  He is also survived by partner Anja Seppala.

Santo is survived by brothers Enrico and Giuseppe; sisters Angelina and Teresa; sisters-in-law Maria, Lina and Marta Marozzo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Maria and Francesco Pellegrino; wife Mirella; brother Salvatore, brother-in-law Saverio; and in-laws Eugene and Angela Marozzo.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 leaving Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. to St. Anthony’s Church, 123 Hilldale Road, for the Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum, St. Andrew’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening March 28th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, where prayers will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Santo’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
