Sheila Ann Robertson finished her final marathon on September 5, 2016 after a tough, but fierce battle with cancer.

Making her entry into this world on October 9, 1958, she was the second of four children born to Jack and Josephine (Josie) Robertson and happily noted she had been the first Canadian-born member of the Robertson clan.

She remained fiercely proud of her Scottish heritage and returned "home" many times to visit with family.

Upon completion of her primary education, she attended the University of Ottawa graduating in 1985 with a degree in Criminology. She commenced employment as a Probation/Parole Officer working in Red Lake and later in Thunder Bay until the time of her death.

She dedicated thirty years to assisting offenders and their families with a multitude of problems and it was not uncommon for her to receive special thanks from them acknowledging the extra effort she had made on their behalf. Similarly, her colleagues recognized her commitment, professionalism and dedication in an often challenging work environment.

Sheila was an accomplished athlete who ran marathons on six of the seven continents, missing only Africa.

She persisted through injuries and setbacks taking on the most challenging of courses. There was no obstacle too big to tackle. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to so many.

By far the most important role Sheila had was that of mother to Jean-Christophe ("The Boy") who was born on July 26, 1994. She was the consummate fan of her son and was always willing to brag about his latest accomplishments to anyone willing to listen.

No sacrifice was too great when it came to ensuring he experienced the best life had to offer whether it be in sports, travel or his education. Her love knew no bounds. Her own family was also important to her and there was no more caring a sister than Sheila, helping and protecting her siblings from a young age.

Sheila is survived by her loving spouse Eric Boutin, son Jean-Christophe Robertson, brother John Robertson and sisters Cheryl Ridler and Allison Robertson. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Scotland and Canada as well as many close, life-long friends are also left to mourn her passing. She was predeceased by both parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Jane Van Toen.

Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Cremation has taken place and interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Northern Cancer Fund, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or the charity of your choice.
