Sherry Lees-Makelainen
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Sherry; a wonderful wife, mother, memere and friend to everyone whose lives she touched. Born in Ottawa on December 2nd, 1963, she grew up in Marathon.

She married Timo Makelainen on April 7, 2017 in Las Vegas. She is survived by her husband as well as sons Jared (London) and Jordan (Katte) (Thunder Bay), and bonus daughters Seija (Jeremy) and Amanda Meadows. Also survived by her grandchildren Ryen, Bianca, Finn and Emilynn.

During the years of 1993 to 2003, she lived in Sault Ste. Marie completing diplomas in corrections, law, and security. Then, working at Northern Treatment Centre before moving to Thunder Bay where she worked at the Thunder Bay Jail from 2003-2009. Since that time, she has worked at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre until her illness prevented it.

Most important in her life was family and friends, from pool parties to gambling trips, karaoke, travel and work. Sherry led a busy life. She also enjoyed softball, mixed slow pitch, curling, golf, swimming, camping, fishing, hockey, and playing with her grandkids. In the last few years, even while quickly declining in health, she thrived in “Sherry’s Kitchen” enjoying cooking and baking for all her family members to devour.

Private memorial services for Sherry will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date or location. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice
