On Monday, May 9, 2016, with family by her side, Shirley Eleanor Pizio, age 84 years, passed away gently into the arms of our Lord.

Shirley was born on September 2, 1931 to Gladys and Walter Brigden in Fort William, Ontario and she was the beloved wife of Rudy Pizio for 66 years and cherished mother to her children.

She married Rudy Pizio on April 15, 1950 and in 1954, the Pizio's became a military family, moving across Canada and overseas. But when in Canada, the whole family always returned every summer to Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout to enjoy family and friends.

Mom was talented in many ways. She enjoyed sewing, evening making all our clothes when we were younger, and money was tight. She could create a meal out of nothing. She loved to crochet, knit and do crafts of all types. She was a patient and understanding woman, who never asked for anything but gave everything. She never expressed anger, but you knew what she meant when you got “the look.”

The truth is, despite battling many health issues over the last few years, Mom never complained and her glass was always half full. The most important thing to Mom was family. She was a caring wife and daughter, loving sister and doting mother. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley leaves behind her husband, Rudy; son David (Phyllis) of Prince Edward Island and daughter Michelle (Bryan) Roberts of Thunder Bay, as well as 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers and sisters-in-law Norman (Marguerite) and Laurence (Arlene, Joan) and brother Arthur (in infancy); her son Michael in 1974 and daughter Carol Ann in 2015.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 1:00PM until 2:00PM in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. A private family interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Shirley to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

Never to leave our hearts. Your family loves you.
