Shirley Popowich

t is with great sadness that the Popowich family announces the passing of Shirley Popowich (Stratford) on February 14, 2023. Shirley was born in Saskatoon on March 15, 1940, and moved to Thunder Bay when she was a young girl.

It was on the streets of Westfort that Shirley would meet the future love of her life, Ron. Shirley and Ron would love each other deeply for over 65 years and raise 6 children Dan (Cathy), Ron (Patti), Jerry (Amy), Rick (Donna), Dana (Will), Bryan (Brandee) and have 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren (and counting).

Singing was an important part of Shirley's life and something she did so very well. Early on she could be found headlining the stage at West Hotel with her duet partner Ron. Shirley would later play a large role in the church choir, friends would invite her to sing at their children's weddings, and no campfire would be complete without a few classics from Shirl. Her voice was a true gift and it will be fondly remembered by us all.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 11:00 AM at the Westfort Baptist Church - 1219 Ford St.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
