Shirley Sheehan (nee Stone)

Shirley Sheehan (nee Stone) was born on March 17, 1941.

She enjoyed 81 Saint Patrick Day celebrations before passing away peacefully on March 23, 2022.

She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband (Ted) in a graveside service this summer.

Shirley was a loving and unapologetically proud mother of two sons, Darrin & Dwayne. However, her greatest joy came from the interactions and news about her wonderful grandchildren (Larissa, Cole, Dawson & Payton). Most recently, she cherished her time with her oldest great grandson Mykhailo and was looking forward to watching her three younger great grandchildren grow up (Dallas, Makenna & Bauer).

Shirley's three younger sisters (Joyce, Linda and Wendy) would describe her as a strong independent woman (aka bossy) with an adventurous spirit and a love of animals. Her friends would remember her generosity and willingness to donate her time and energy to worthwhile causes, especially those that supported children and pets. Some of her oldest friends might even remember her passion for playing the organ and accordion. Shirley's neighbors would remember her elaborate decorations celebrating every holiday or change of season. Anyone who knew her would also recall her interest in crafting, knitting, gardening and Swedish weaving..... but most of all her love of socializing. After Ted's passing, Shirley spent her last 16 years exploring new interests and reconnecting with family and friends around the globe. She courageously travelled everywhere in North America with her massive motorhome and even bigger white dogs. She used helicopters to hike on Alaska glaciers or view Hawaiian volcanoes. She travelled by sea through the Panama Canal and on foot in exotic locations like New Zealand and Ireland. When she was no longer mobile enough to explore, her favourite television shows were all related to nature and travelling. She has been an inspiration for her sons to explore the world, but always reminded them of the beauty of living in Canada and appreciating a day on the lake catching pickerel. Shirley lived a full life and provided endless love to her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother who has left us a legacy of happiness and positivity.

Cremation has taken place and a private family only interment service will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to the Boys and Girls Club or to St. Johns Ambulance- Thunder Bay.
