Shirley Sutherland (Goodman)

Shirley Jeanette Sutherland

Our hearts are broken to announce the passing of our Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Shirley Sutherland (Goodman) of Beardmore on June 12, 2022.

Mom was born August 31, 1934 to Jeanette and Herbert Goodman, the middle child of 10 siblings, growing up in MacDiarmid. Mom married Cliff Sutherland and raised five children in Thunder Bay, Auden and settling in Beardmore in 1970.

If you knew our mom then you probably ate one of her famous butter tarts, played a game of crib or just dropped by to her always open door for a cup of instant coffee and storytelling.
Mom looked forward to crib day on Wednesday with Donna, Sunday coffee with Dorothy and the never missed good morning and good night messages from her niece Suzie. Her brother Frank was always by for visit.

Mom’s life was her family. From caring for her siblings to devoting her life to her children, Mom asked for nothing in return. She was the best Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother ever. Mom decided to join Dad commercial fishing on Lake Nipigon. They spent many wonderful years together until our dad’s passing. Being with Dad on the boat was never a job just honest hard work. Mom was so strong learning to live alone for the past 25 years. Up till the end you could still find her shoveling her snow, cutting her grass, and going on her daily bike rides to check the mail or buy ingredients for her baking. Mom was fortunate to spend her winters in Golden, B.C. surrounded by family. She grew to have many special friends there as well. Mom was a member of AZA First Nation who supported her over the years.

There will always be a void in our hearts as well as everyone that knew her. It’s hard to believe that we just can’t pick up the phone anymore to call her.

Left to mourn Shirley is her son Cliff (Kathy) from Dryden, daughters Lorrie (Shawn), Carly, Janet Ingram (Lyle) all from Golden, BC and Donna Sandberg (Mark) from Thunder Bay. Grandchildren Tyler, Troy and Krista Sutherland, Courtney Rande and Carly Kloosterhuis, Felicia Sutherland, Sierra Ingram, Lucas Sandberg and 10 more wonderful great grandchildren. Also, her brother Frank (Dorothy) Goodman, sisters-in-law Joyce, Donna and Ginette Goodman. As well as many numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Jeanette and Herbert Goodman, husband Cliff, brothers Jack, Herb, and Glen, sisters Lorraine, Nora, Beatty, Dorothy and Lovey.

Special thanks to our cousin Darren Goodman who was very special to mom for his many visits as well to his wife Brenda Goodman for all that you did for Mom for medical care, Nipigon Memorial Hospital doctors and nursing staff and TBRHSC for all your efforts.

As per Mom’s wishes there will be no service. Mom will be laid to rest at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.

“We loved you every day.
And now
We will miss you every day.”
