Shirley Youmans

We are heartbroken to announce Shirley Youmans, nee Kay, passed away peacefully on November 11th, 2021 at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with her loving husband and children by her side.

Shirley was born July 16th, 1933 in Port Arthur, ON. She worked a few jobs before getting married such as a Cookee in the bush camps, as a waitress, and chambermaid at a nearby hotel and a Radio Operator in Cameron Falls on Dam Communications. Once she married in 1953, she chose to stay home and raise her 4 children. When her children were grown, she went to work at Eaton’s in their Receiving Room.

She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, and loved spending time with family and friends. Always with a smile on her face, she enjoyed all she did.

Her favourite pastime was picking up a coffee and going to the Marina Park with her husband to watch the boats and wildlife in the area. Actually, a car ride anywhere was right up her alley. She had many trips throughout North America with either her husband or kids. Sometimes both.

Left to mourn are her husband of 68 years, Bill Youmans, children, Debbie Eloranta, Daryle Youmans (Pam Kozak), Doug Youmans and son-in-law, Al Graver; grandchildren: Stacey Renaud, Tyler Renaud, Justin Eloranta, Crystal DiGiuseppe, Matthew Youmans, Jenny Diaczun, Jolene Casanova; great grandchildren: Liam and Owen Renaud, Sammy Diaczun.

She was predeceased by her daughter Donna Graver; sisters Beverly Lynch, Sharryn McCollum; brothers Bob, Pat and D’Arcy Kay; and parents Jack and Doreen Kay.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their kindness during her stay. And a special thank you to the staff at Jasper Place for their compassion, love and concern. Much appreciated.

Thanks to our loving family members who have given above and beyond at this difficult time, because when you have a loving family, you have everything.

A private celebration of life with family will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Matthew Diegel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada.
