Mrs. Siiri Irene Valila, age 83 years, passed away peacefully after a brief illness in hospital on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 with her family by her side.

Siiri was known as Mummu by all who knew her. She was famous for her Finnish pancakes and her easy going nature. She enjoyed going to church, Florida in the winter, fishing and having a sauna at camp.

Survived by her son Ken and daughter Sharon; grandchildren Scott (Dani), Tami (Al) Hutchinson, Michael Valila-White, Troy (Emily) and Kyle; great-grandchildren Bradley and Trey; twin sisters Irja and Mirja as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Predeceased by her husband Eino in 1989 and daughter Sinikka in 2008.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Siiri Valila will be held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Hilldale Lutheran Church with Rev. Jari Lahtinen officiating.

Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening in the Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Siiri to the Finnish Free Church or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
