It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Sofia Barch age 82 years announces her passing at her home on Sunday, July 15, 2018. Born in Lieczkowce, Poland in 1935 she came to Canada in 1957 to be reunited with her parents in Fort William after an 18 year separation as a result of the war.

She married Frank Barch in 1958 and began her life’s work of raising her family.  Sofia was a devoted member of St. Casimir’s Church and took great comfort in attending mass throughout her life.  Being raised on a farm, Sofia was a skilled gardener and took pride in maintaining her gardens and yard.  Raising three boys, the harvest from her gardens would never go to waste as she would preserve the food so that it could be used throughout the year. Sofia’s greatest joy was her family.  She invested all her strength and love into them and was rewarded with their devotion and love in return. Sofia was predeceased by her parents Jan and Maria Rozdeba, husband Frank Barch and her son Edward Barch.

Sofia will be lovingly remembered by her sons Joe (Stefania) and John (Leanne) and granddaughters Jessica and Lauren Barch.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Casimir’s Church celebrated by Rev. Krystian Sokal.  Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  Prayers will be offered Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel.  If friends desire, memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
