Raynak Sonia new

Sonia Lenore Raynak passed away suddenly in Bethammi Nursing home after a brief illness.

She was born in Fort William Ontario and attended Vocational School (Selkirk) and was active in sports such as softball, curling, bowling, cheer leading and life guarding. It was during her lifeguard duties at Dease Pool that she caught the eye of Absy (Albert Raynak) the love or her life, and they married in August 1957.

Sonia worked her entire Career at Bell Canada, first as an Operator then as a Clerk/draftsperson in Engineering. Sonia and Absy lived in the East End for over 25 years before moving to Lakeshore Drive to enjoy the view of Lake Superior, have a garden and small apple orchard. Several years later in 2004, they moved out permanently to the family camp at Dog Lake to enjoy life together with the kids and grand kids who were their pride and joy.

When Absy passed suddenly in 2008 Sonia was determined to continue living at Dog Lake.  She was a real bushwhacker taking care of the yard, shoveling snow, and driving the treacherous winter roads.  Her fierce determination and stubbornness kept her active for several years at the Lake.  By 2012  health issues started to take a toll on Sonia and despite the surgeries and complications she still managed to continue to live at the Lake until 2015. She then moved back to town to lovely apartment " the penthouse" on Adelaide St overlooking Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. A year later she needed more care and moved into Bethammi Nursing home.  She kept the staff and residents hopping and laughing with her antics and wit.

Sonia is survived by her children Dawn (Sean Sylvester), Nick (Jan), Robert (Kim), grandchildren Aaron, Daniel, Joshua, Jordan, Jenna and Alanna, her sister Lilian Kooiman and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert, parents Olga Kurylo and Nicholas Osipenko and special aunt Natalie Graham.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at Blake's Funeral Chapel where friends and family will gather to celebrate her life; officiated by Rev Joseph Arockiam of St. Peter's parish. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

If friends desire donations can be made to George Jeffery's Children Foundation or a charity of their choice.
