Sophie Myslicki left us to join dad in the very early hours of January 8, 2016.
She leaves behind her children; Joseph Z. (Michael), David (Susan), Stanley (Lois), Cathy Hicks (John), Holly Tuck (Bob), Rosanne (Gary Smith), Brent and Robert. Mom also leaves 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Sophie Katchen and very close cousin Olga Chamut. Besides joining Dad, Mom is joining her parents (Zachary and Pearl), infant son (William) and brothers (William, Maurice and Leslie).
Mom was raised in Westfort and on the “Island” McKellar. Shortly after attending Normal School in North Bay, Mom married the love of her life, dad, in 1946. A few years later they built their home in Slate River living there for over 55 years until ill health forced them to move to Glacier Ridge and finally a few years later to Pioneer Ridge.
While we kids were growing up both mom and dad were very active in the Slate River Community. Mom was a member of the Slate River Women’s Institute for many years, secretary of the Slate River Hall Board and a 4-H leader in the valley for a few years. Before and after her marriage mom taught school for over 30 years retiring from the Lakehead Board of Education.
Whenever we needed help, they were always there for us. Their Faith also meant a great deal to them. Mom was a member of St. Anne’s Society for almost forty years, serving on the executive and president of the Society as well as some Society committees. Mom was also one of first ladies to serve as a Eucharistic Minister.
With dad she enjoyed being a member of the Golden Agers at the Church. Mom was also a member for many years of the Kakabeka Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mom loved to travel with dad and they were fortunate to do so for more than 20 years. They enjoyed multiple cruises and trips throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.
Baba was greatly loved by all of us grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always took time for each of us and taught us many things. Baba comforted us when we were sad, and made our favourite foods. We take comfort knowing that she has been reunited with Gigi.
