Mrs. Stamatina “Tina” Mellas, age 64 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2016 with her family by her side.  Matina showed incredible strength and courage fighting an eleven year battle with cancer.

Born on August 6, 1951 in Epidavros, Greece, she came to Canada as a young woman of 17 and married Angelo Mellas who predeceased her.  Matina worked tirelessly at the family restaurant, The Blue Parrot, for many years.  Matina had a passion for baking, cooking, knitting, gardening and spending time with family and friends.  Matina was a dedicated and long standing member of the Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church.

Matina will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Irene Mellas and her spouse Jeffrey Carroll, Georgina Mellas and her spouse John Knox and her beloved grandson Adam Knox all of Mississauga, Ontario; sister Eleni (Panagioti) Rossi and brother George (Vasiliki) Bekas of Greece.  Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law Smaragde Mellas also survive.  

The Funeral will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 leaving the Harbourview Funeral Centre at 10:30 a.m. to the Greek Orthodox Community Holy Trinity Church, 651 Beverly Street, for Services to begin at 11:00 a.m. presided by Rev. Fr. Nikolaos Tambakis.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 7th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, with Prayers to begin at 6:00 p.m. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Matina’s memory to either the Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Centre or Greek Orthodox Holy Trinity Church Memorial Fund.
