Stanislaus (Stanley/Stan) Albert Stevens, last child born on the traditional reserve at Parmasheene, Lake Helen, to the late Delaine and Abraham Stevens, on October 24, 1949, passed on to the spirit world unexpectedly on the night of November 20, 2016. Stan was raised as a traditional Anishnabae by his great-grandparents Joe and Mary-Ann Wadow (Manitobenes). These were some of the happiest times in his life.

Stan is survived by his daughter, Cree, brothers Michael, Leonard, Louis, and sister Darlene (Taylor), and Shirley, mother of Cree and lifelong friend. He was recently predeceased by his sister Susan. He was a loving partner and soul friend to Linda Barkman, proud stepfather to Lee Danielson (Krissy Fisher), Gavin Danielson (Shannon Donaldson), Wesley Danielson (Roseanna Adam), and Irene Barkman. He was a proud Papa to Cedric, Nolan, Leanne, Brayden, Kaylee, Summer, Colin, McKenna, Daisie, Aethan, and Kayden.

Stan had a few nicknames lovingly given to him by friends and family such as ‘Stan the Man’, ‘Popeye’, ‘Stosh’, and ‘Donley’ (by his great-grandparents). He felt most at home in the bush and made frequent trips to Nirivia with one of his oldest friends, Jim.

He was brilliant, imaginative, perceptive, and wise. He loved science and science fiction and solving puzzles. He was masterful with his hands - fixing, building, creating, healing. Despite having an incredibly active mind, he was a man of few words who spoke carefully and with purpose. He was tough and loving. He loved to laugh and was quickest to laugh at himself. He was a survivor and protector. He was spiritual and enlightened. He was beloved, respected, admired, and honoured by everyone that knew or met him. He made this world a better place. He will be with us forever in our hearts, mind, and spirit.

A brief, private gathering for close family members took place on Sunday, November 27. A cremation will follow. His ashes will be scattered at various locations of his ancestral home - the bush. A warm thank you to Blake’s Funeral Chapel for assisting with Stan’s transition to the spirit world.

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming - WOW - What a ride!!!” - Author Unknown
