Stanley Vlotaros

It is with a wounded hearts that the family of Stanley Vlotaros age 74, announces that he succumbed to his fight with cancer and passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 29, 2022.

Stanley was born on the Greek Island of Lemnos on October 26, 1948 to parents Vlotis Vlotaros and Athena Vlotaros (Psirouki). Along with his parents and younger sister, Stanley came to Canada in 1965 and settled in Thunder Bay, where they were later joined by Stanley’s older brother Peter after Peter’s service in the armed forces. He eventually found work as a painter and began a career which he would spend his entire life refining his skill with a passion. In doing so, Stan established a reputation for possessing a work ethic that is rarely matched (as he helped paint a great many buildings including the Thunder Bay Generating Station Smoke Stack), and both a fierce kindness and loyalty demonstrated by very few as he won lifelong friendships through his incredible work and affectionate personality.

Stan’s passion for his work, however, could only be surpassed by his passion for his family. He married Jenet McLeod in 1970 and had three children, Rachel, Stanley and Athena or “Tina” whom Stanley loved endlessly. He instilled in them his tremendous love, boundless kindness as well as his unwavering determination and that storied work ethic while showing them the value of family and the privilege of being able to provide for your loved ones. As the years passed, Stanley’s children would go on to teach these values to their children as Stanley got to enjoy what may have been his favorite responsibility: being a grandfather.

Stan was known for his devotion to his family and his friends. Apart from his work, Stanley’s passions included fishing, gardening, and talking and laughing with his loved ones. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly hockey cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs and professional wrestling which he watched religiously. Over the course of his life, Stanley made countless friends from all walks of life and respectfully treated everyone with the kindness he was known for. This kind devoted and loving personality and unbending fortitude would define Stanley as his friends and family look back on his life.

Stanley was predeceased by his parents Vlotis and Athena and his daughter Rachel King. He is survived and devotedly remembered by his wife Jenet; son Stanley and fiancé Dorothy; daughter Athena “Tina”; brother Peter; sister Lily; grandsons Jordan and Dustin from Rachel, Seth and step-grandson Brendon from Stanley and Angus from Tina; his granddaughters Dessa and Dayna and step-granddaughters Pamela, Vanessa and Onika from Stanley; his great granddaughters Rachel-Mae, Amelia, Catharine “Catie” and Brooklyn from Dustin and step-great granddaughter Abigail from Vanessa; great grandson Dustin Jr from Dustin and step-great grandsons Brycen from Vanessa and Carson from Brendon as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022 in Chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N Court Street with Fr. Kosta Tsiolas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice or to Northern Cancer Fund.
