It is with profound sadness that the family of Stella Prystay (Holowaty) announce her unexpected passing on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the age of 89.
Stella was born in the Ukraine. At the age of one, she immigrated to Canada with her parents and sister, settling in Fort William. Stella received her strong work ethic working on the family farm. Stella was widowed early in her marriage, with 3 boys under the age of 4. While raising her children, she worked as a cook and waitress at the Columbia Grill. She was a loving mom who worked hard to support her family.
Stella was a devoted mother and Baba. For many years she enjoyed tending to a large garden growing vegetables. She also had a flair for growing a variety of flowers. But spending time with her family brought her the most pleasure. Her grandchildren were her special pride and joy, and they felt her love and support, and enjoyed the phone calls from Baba. Stella was thrilled to recently welcome her first great-grandchild and travelled to Kenora to meet him. Stella also adored all her grand-dogs!
Stella will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rob (Barb), Brian, Dwayne (Lori); grandchildren, Courtney (Matt), Emily (Tyler), Erin (Cashen); one great-grandchild, Grayson; special niece Michelle (Heijo) and their children Kristine and Nicole; as well as many family members and friends.
Stella was predeceased by her husband Amol; parents Nick and Nellie; sister Mary; brother-in-law Mike; grandson Jason; nephew Bill; and numerous other relatives.
The family would like to thank the emergency staff at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their care and compassion.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity close to your heart.
Stella will be forever missed and remembered as a loving mother, Baba and friend.
