In her 100th year, Stella Tracz (nee Woloschuk) of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 11, 2021.

Born on May 21, 1921 in Wilchiwcie (Vil’khivtsi), Husiatyn in Polish-occupied Ukraine, Stella immigrated with her family to Canada at the age of 8. She became an immensely proud Canadian growing up on their family farm in Togo, SK moving to Fort William (Thunder Bay) in 1939 where she met and married her late husband, Peter.

She worked for many years at Canada-Car, Simpsons-Sears, and Eaton’s retiring in 1986. A parishioner of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, she was also a charter member of the parish Ladies of St. Anne Society.

Stella is survived by daughters Sandra Tennant and Ken, and Cheryl Bain and Greig, all of Thunder Bay, and son Peter Tracz and Barbara of Stoney Creek, ON. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Clare Deegan-Kent and Bob of Asheville, NC, Christopher Tennant, Eric Tennant and Carleigh, Jennifer Manion and Blair, and Rory Bain and Rain all of Thunder Bay, Kim Koza and Zbyszek of Binbrook, ON, and Sarah Tracz and Blake Wilson of Hamilton, ON.

She has ten great-grandchildren, Audrey, Nessa, and Finna Kent, Jack, James and Travis Manion, Anna and Sam Bain, and Anya and Emma Koza, as well as several nieces and nephews. All were very important to her. She was very much loved and will be missed by her family.

In addition to her husband Peter, she was predeceased by her eldest daughter Patricia Quinn, parents Paul and Eugenia (nee Hopaluk) Woloschuk, sisters Ann Wistoski and Jean Currie, and brothers Michael Wolos and Alex Woloschuk.

Stella appreciated the many years of care provided by Dr. Andrea Shepard and receptionist Dana, Dr. Kathy Simpson and the loving staff of Lilac 4 South at Hogarth Riverview Manor in her final years, and the staff at Safeway Pharmacy on Arthur St.

In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will be held at Holy Cross, Fr. Stepan Didur officiating. There will be a family celebration of life at a later date when we can be together. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Hearts at Home Campaign (Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation), Holy Cross or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
