It is with great sorrow, the family of Stewart Grant Barrie, aged 79 years, announce his passing on August 30, 2018.

Stewart was born in Kirkland Lake, ON raised by his mother Irene and step-father Clarence Rhodes. After living in various mining towns the family moved from Flin Flon, MB to Port Arthur, ON in 1945. Stewart attended St. James, Shuniah and Central Schools. He began his career working on grain ships and eventually settled on a taxi driving career, driving mostly for Oikonen’s. He was the owner and operator of Black Bay Cabs for some time, but later returned to Oikonen’s for 40 plus years. Driving cab wasn’t just a job to Stewart it was a love and passion, he brought laughs and conversation to his patrons. He was well liked by owners and clients who would ask for him personally when calling a cab.

Stewart was a true Canadian, his love for hockey was beyond most, always having season tickets for Thunder Bay Twins. He was also a true fan of Toronto Maple leafs and the Blue Jays usually going into a trance while watching either team. Stewart was a great man with a huge heart and even bigger smile. Raising his family in Current River, he ensured there was always an ice rink in the backyard every winter. He was thoughtful, caring and kind. He was a caring son to his mother visiting her daily when she was in Dawson Court, he was a caring father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family and will be missed dearly.

Stewart will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years Josie (McPherson), his daughters; Gail (Jeremy) Dick; Irene (Rene) Taylor, his sons; Clarence and Stanley (Melanie) Barrie, his grandchildren; Kaya, Kyler, Raymond, Patrick, Amber, Jaimee, Jerome, Remy and his great grandchildren Xavier and Kayzer.
