Just a few months shy of her 92nd birthday, our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Susan (Arabia) Brophy, passed away peacefully in St. Joseph's Hospice on March 22, 2024.

Susan’s raison d’être was her family.  She loved to be surrounded by all of her family (immediate and extended) and took great joy in providing meals and special occasions to make that happen.  Her sense of humour always shone through in her quick and sharp wit. At gatherings she was often the life of the party and was known to enjoy a good rum and coke. From an early age she had a passion for reading that enabled her to travel the world in her younger years. Later in life she was able to travel to many of the places formerly visited only in books. After raising her family, Susan ‘s creativity led her to sketching and painting, originally with oils, then moving to watercolour where she truly flourished.  Her inspiration was the magnificent landscape of northern Ontario, with birch trees and the sleeping giant being two of her favourite subjects.

Susan is lovingly remembered by her children Maureen (Carlos DaRocha), David (Catherine) and Kerry (Jodi Kitt); grandchildren Kevin (Melissa Chen), Mark, and Jordan (Adrian Plante); great grandchildren Kyrie Plante, Korra and Zuko Brophy; sister Ellen Hadath; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends. She is predeceased by the love of her life and husband Dennis, infant son Mark Peter, parents Rose and Frank Arabia, and sister Mary Melville.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the staff in the Hospice Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassion and support during Mom’s end of life journey. Also, a big thank you to the Renal Services staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for the wonderful care and support provided during Mom’s dialysis treatments. Additionally, the family thanks the Bayshore Healthcare nursing staff for providing excellent in-home care over the past two years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Sargent and Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street. If so desired, donations can be made to Saint Joseph's Foundation (Hospice)  - www.sjftb.net or Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation (Renal Services) - www.healthsciencesfoundation.ca or a charity of your choice.
