It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Svante Salmi on Monday, February 22, 2010, at Roseview Manor at the age of 100 years.
He was born on June 10th, 1909 in Nolalu and was the last surviving member of his family of three brothers and five sisters. He had a great passion for working in the garden, woodworking and story telling with his cat Mikku.
Svante is survived by a son Marvin Salmi (Sinikka); daughter Gloria Dolce (Joe) and June Wozny; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2000, and son-in-law William Wozny in 2001.
Funeral Services for the late Svante Salmi will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 26th, 2010, in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Dan Repo of Christ Lutheran Church. Private Family interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in Svante’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Arthritis Society, Thunder Bay Branch.
