Sadly we say farewell to another outstanding member of the Shebandowan community. After watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs inch even closer to a playoff spot, Syd drifted off into a peaceful and eternal sleep.

A Machinist by trade, he came to Shebandowan in the 90's to work at the Mine, but is best known in the community for his recent years working as Waste Management Supervisor at the Shebandowan landfill site. A job that he loved and retired from in 2023.

Syd was also an avid outdoorsman. A true Master Angler, his summer adventures into Lakes Kekekuab and Boot knew no bounds, as long as he could climb aboard his trusty four wheeler. Winter was marked with many a sleepover in his Ice Hut on Lac des Mille Lacs and the occasional snowmobile day trip into Greenwater Lake, where Syd could be counted on to come home with the biggest and the most.

He was a true gentleman with a kind soul. Literally a man of few words, Syd's big personality is best described by his generosity to others, his infectious sense of humour and his tenacity and drive to live each day to the fullest.

Syd was predeceased by his partner in life and best friend, Sandra May Qualie, on December 12, 2023. They shared the best part of thirty years in the community, surrounded by loving family and dear friends. Both will be fondly remembered for their dazzling Christmas light displays and artfully landscaped property. They will be forever in our hearts.

Special thanks to the Staff at the Northern Credit Union, KB Evergreen Pharmacy and the Odena Grocers for their extra kindness to Syd. Also, heartfelt appreciation to Russ, Harvey and Brenda whose assistance and regular visits brightened each day!

As per Syd's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. In lieu of flowers or donations, please hug someone close today - the hardest goodbyes are the ones we never get to say.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay.
