Our mother passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 28, 2024 at TBRHSC.
Survived by daughter Heli Kuss (Ken), son Paul (Delma Wood) and niece Irene Hauta. Also cousin Arnold Lehto and families. Predeceased by husband Olavi in 1985 and daughter Market in 2021; sister Helmi Hauta in 2015. Sylvi has many nieces and nephews living in Finland. One sister surviving Hilkka Yla-Maihaniemi and family.
Born in Orivesi Finland on July 22, 1937 she came to Canada in 1957 and began working at local bush camps. She loved dancing and meeting new friends. She was a seamstress and worked at Woods Tent and Canvas, retiring at 55. She loved shopping for fashions and jewellery. Covid sent mom to the hospital in 2023 and then to Hogarth Riverview Manor.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all the staff at Hogarth Bluebell Unit and the emergency staff at TBRHSC. Your care was greatly appreciated.
