It is with heavy hearts the family of Ted Belanger announce his passing in Hogarth Riverview Manor on September 20, 2018. The family would like to thank the staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor, especially Dr. Koo and the staff of 2 South and 6 South for their care and compassion.
Born in Port Arthur, Ted attended Cornwall Public School and was quite the school yard scrapper which would prepare him for later as a professional boxer. Ted met his future wife, Lydia, at Cornwall Public School. The two later married in 1950. In 1954, ted and Lydia moved to Red Rock where they raised their 3 children: Barry, Gordon and Judy. Ted was an electrician in the Red Rock Paper Mill and with his close friends an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a devout catholic and for many years was a member of the Knight of Columbus. Upon retirement in 1990, Ted and Lydia remained in Red Rock until 1992, later moving back to Thunder Bay where much of their families and friends of both resided. They spent their winters in Southern Florida for many years. The couple also loved to gamble, taking many excursions to Las Vegas, Hinckley and especially Grand Portage in Minnesota, always bragging about their winnings but mentioning little of their losses.
Ted leaves behind his sons Barry (Katharina) and Gordie (Colleen), and daughter Judy. Also left to grieve are his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jeremy Charron (Dana – Chael and Connor), Jennifer Dunbar (John – Jordan and Jody), David Belanger (daughter Rebekah), Diana LeBar (Downey – Solomon and Waverly), Melinda Tremblay (daughters Emma and Isabella), Jonathon Belanger (Megan), Simon Belanger (Jess – Kaelynn) and Tyler Belanger (Ashley – Bralyn). He is also survived by sister Rita, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ted will be missed by all family and friends. Ted was predeceased by his loving wife Lydia, his parents Simon and Ann Belanger, in-laws Michael and Tina Chabot, as well as four brothers and seven sisters.
Funeral services for Ted will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in the chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Father Victor De Gagne of Corpus Christi Church. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service time. If friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
