McKenna original
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Theresa Mary McKenna on Saturday, March 6, 2021 due to complications from COVID19 and MS. Theresa was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 20, 1966 and moved to Thunder Bay with her family as a girl. She attended Fort William Collegiate Institute and Lakehead University. Theresa had a love of the arts - playing cello in high school, enjoying reading and writing as well as fashion and design. She was passionate about pottery, working alongside her mother (Joan) in operating Dove Pottery and Dovetree Animals for many years. She loved creating one-of-a-kind animals and birds in clay, specializing in custom memorial dog sculptures and unique pairs of nestling doves that were a popular wedding gift. She also participated for many years in the local Thunder Bay arts community through Artisans Northwest.

Theresa courageously fought MS for 29 years, and her big smile, constant strength and remarkable resilience were an inspiration to us all. In the last 7 years she had an apartment through CSINW Cumberland (formerly HAGI). We thank the amazing staff there for all the incredible support and care they gave Theresa over this time, helping maintain her independence. The family also extends their thanks to the many other helpers who supported Theresa in remaining active and engaged within the community.

Prior to the pandemic, Theresa enjoyed getting together with family in Thunder Bay, especially during holiday celebrations. There would always be at least one animal present, much to her delight. Theresa had a special bond with animals and had a variety of beloved dogs, cats and birds throughout her life.
Theresa was a devout Catholic and found great refuge in her faith, regularly attending Mass by whatever means she could. She also loved her trips to Ireland to visit her grandparents and spending time with her Uncle Peter & Aunt Helen, as well her cousins and other relatives.

Theresa was predeceased by her mother Joan in 2009 and is survived by her father Bryan, and brothers Peter (Julie), J.W. (Jessica) and John (Allison) as well as nieces Shaina, Emily, Jacqueline, Runa, nephews Steven, David and Eirik and many other family members and friends across Canada, Ireland and Australia – she will be greatly missed. A mass and prayer service will take place later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MS Society.
