Thomas Currie

Posted

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Mr Thomas “TOM” M. Currie after a lengthy illness on September 14th, 2021 at the age of 74 years.

Tom was born in Port Arthur on August 21st, 1947 eldest son of Thomas and Alice Currie. He went on to have a successful career that he loved as a stationary engineer beginning in the early 1970’s at the Abitibi Provincial mill here in Thunder Bay, and then relocating to Terrace Bay in 1979 to work as a steam plant foreman for Kimberly Clark until 1996 at which time he was forced into retirement by illness. He received a liver transplant in 2000 and although the transplant prevented him returning to mill work he went on to live in good health for an additional 20 years before the complexity of antirejection therapy damaged his kidneys in the spring of 2020.

Although these last 15 months were very difficult for him he commented regularly that all he could feel was grateful for the 20 years the gift of the donor liver provided him, a gift he never took for granted.

Tom was predeceased by his parents Tom SR and Alice and survived by his younger brother, 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons.
Cremation has taken place. Due to the current pandemic, there will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Liver foundation or any other charity would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street,
Thunder Bay.
