Mr. Thomas Steven Simpson, 53, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Care Group on Saturday, April 3, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Tom was born in Paisley, Scotland on February 23, 1957 to Jimmy and Margaret Simpson. He immigrated to Canada in 1991 arriving in Toronto before moving to Thunder Bay where he began his career as an Executive Chef at the Red Oak Inn. He then played and integral role in opening Armani's Restaurant before becoming the Executive Chef at the Valhalla Inn and finally attaining the position of General Manager of the Travelodge Hotel Airlane.
Tom loved to cook and entertain for family and friends, sharing his culinary expertise with everyone. He had a passion for life and shared his passion through his involvement in various community organizations and events. His greatest love was his family and his many dear friends.
He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Anita, children Steven and Laura, stepchildren, Daniel and Jenice, sister Isabel (Archie) and brother James (Angela) in Scotland, in-laws, Dan and Gina, Bronco and Karen, Mark, Suzi and Dave, Oma and Bill, and Opa and Ann as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives in Scotland and Canada.
He was predeceased by his parents. Many thanks to all the caregivers, Dr. Chan (Karen), Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Migay, Dr. Haq, Dr. Simpson, Dr. Lai, all the staff at Curan's Health Centre, Dr. Hamid, the nursing staff of 3 S. Neuro Ward of the T.B.R.H.S.C., the V.O.N., the C.C.A.C., and most recently the amazing nurses of St. Joseph's Hospice, with a special thanks to Barb for making Tom's last days so memorable.
Finally, we would not have been able to carry on the fight for the time that we did but for the incredible support received from our many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in Grace Church, 289 N. Court Street, with Rev. Austin Stouffer presiding.
