It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father and Nonno, Tiziano Medves, at the age of 91.

Tiziano was born April 25, 1934 in Savogna, Italy, a northeastern village in the province of Friuli. In 1958, he immigrated to Canada, settling in Thunder Bay, in hopes of a prosperous life and future. When he was settled and secure, he called for his love Adelina to come and join him in Canada, promising her a life filled with love, respect and prosperity. Together they welcomed 2 children, Dino and Irene, with whom they shared their important Italian roots and traditions, in addition to strong values of love and family. He also instilled in his children a strong work ethic and the importance of education.

His greatest joy came with the arrival of his 3 precious grandchildren Jason, Michael and Caroline, whom he loved whole-heartedly, and unconditionally. He was happiest playing hockey or kicking a soccer ball around the yard with Jason and Michael and teaching Caroline how to play bocce in the living room and to pick raspberries in the garden. He was immensely proud to see the strong, fun-loving adults they have become.

Tiziano began working in the forest industry and then was employed by Abitibi Provincial Papers, where he worked for close to 30 years until his retirement in 1993. He led an active social life. He loved to meet new people at work, in the neighborhood and the community, where he was well-known and respected by all who knew him. His passions and talents included dancing with Ada to Italian music, playing cards, playing bocce on weekend family picnics at Boulevard Lake, and in leagues and tournaments at the Davinci Centre. He was a masterful gardener, spending hours in his garden producing abundant tomatoes, beans and potatoes. As his health began to decline, he continued to enjoy many of these passions in modified ways, always finding joy in his favourite activities.

Tiziano is survived by his wife Ada of 62 wonderful years, his children Dino (Linda) and Irene (Antonio) and his grandchildren Jason (Sonja), Michael (Christina) and Caroline. He also leaves behind his sister Onnelia and numerous nieces and nephews and relatives in Italy.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to all of the caring and compassionate nurses and staff at Pioneer Ridge Plaza 4, where he resided with contentment for 5 years. Your warmth, kindness and exceptional care is second to none and we will be eternally grateful for all you have done to make us feel a part of the Pioneer Ridge family.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Tiziano’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25th, 2025 with Rev. Luigi Filippini officiating at St. Anthony’s Church, 123 Hilldale Rd. A visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Pioner Ridge Nursing Home-Theraputic Recreation Program in Memory of Tiziano Medves would be much appreciated.
