t is with great sadness that the family of Tony Potosky announces his peaceful passing on September 10, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospice with his wife and daughters at his side.
Born June 13, 1928 in Fort William, Tony was a proud East Ender who attended St. Peter’s School and served as an altar boy at St. Peter’s Church. During his youth,
Tony enjoyed tinkering with car, dancing and roller skating. While roller skating, he met and fell in love with Alice, whom he married on July 18, 1953. Four years later, he moved to the U.S. with his family for work at Inland Steel Company.
He went on to become a service rep for Gardner Denver Equipment, but came back to Thunder Bay and worked as a millwright for Great Lakes Paper until he retired. When he came back to Thunder Bay, Tony joined the Knights of Columbus, Council 1447, and eventually became Grand Knight and a lifetime member.
After retirement, he found a passion for model railroading and became president of the Thunder Bay Model Railroad Association. Tony was truly a family man and found great happiness when surrounded by family and friends.
His great sense of humour was infectious and his smile could light up a room. Tony took great pride in his home and yard and took meticulous care of both. He also enjoyed cooking and, as our Soup Master, made the best soup ever. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, reading and music. He is survived by his wife Alice, daughters Susan Fischer and Valerie Laflèche, son-in-law Claude Laflèche, sister Anne Tuhkanen, brother Steve Potosky (Olga), sister Agnes Andrea (Elias), sister Bette Labelle (Jim), brother-in-law Ron Pero and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Anna Potosky and his sister Cecelia Pero.
Visitation will be held at Blake’s Funeral Chapel on Monday, September 14 from 6pm to 7pm with prayers to follow. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at Corpus Christi Church for the funeral mass to be held at 10am, celebrated by Father Alan Albao. Private interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Joseph’s Hospice Unit will be most appreciated.
Anthony Potosky will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 12, 2016.
