Mrs. Ulla Maija Laurin (nee Mantyla), age 61 years, lost her courageous battle with cancer in hospital with her loved ones by her side on Sunday, Aug. 1.

Ulla was born in Finland on November 14, 1948 and travelled as a child with her family to Port Arthur in 1953. She attended Five Mile Public School and Gron Morgan High School. She married the love of her life Wayne Laurin and moved to Lappe where they raised their three children Danny, John and Lisa.

Ulla drove school bus with Iron Range for Gorham and Ware Public School for almost 30 years. Driving school bus was not work for Ulla but a passion. She will always be remembered as a hard worker who had a smile for everyone.

Survived by her children Danny, John and Lisa Niivila (Mika); grandsons Mitcheall and Arron Niivila; siblings as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive in Canada and Finland.

Predeceased by her loving husband Wayne Laurin (2005) and her parents Kauko and Lilli Mantyla.

Ulla will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Thank you to all of her friends that visited and made calls to the hospital during her recent stay there. Special thanks to Pentti & Karen Mantyla, Seija, Liisa & Maria Noponen and Judy & Edwin Kenuck for supporting her and helping her through her times of need.


Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ulla Laurin will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 1 p.m in Lappe Lutheran Church with Pastor Garry Heintz officiating. Interment of Ashes to take place in Lappe Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Ulla made to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
