Unto Erkki “Eric” Savela passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Monday, March 21, 2016 with family by his side.
Eric was born in Haapavesi, Finland on December 10, 1944 and immigrated to Canada in 1960 with his family. He worked for Shuniah Forest Products for over 30 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years, until his illness.
Eric will be sadly missed by Leah, his wife of 51 years; mother Edith Savela; daughters Anita Kendall (Traves) and Annette Savela Jaggard (Scotty); 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 4 brothers Esko, Risto, Martti and Jorma. He was predeceased by his father Lauri in 1982 and sister Anneli Tremblay in 2014.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Jari Lahtinen of Hilldale Lutheran Church. Interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow the reception. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the service. Should friends so desire, donations in Eric’s memory to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
