Urho Albert Lake
April 24, 1922 ~ June 20, 2015

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our father Albert in St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

Albert immigrated to Canada from Lehtimaki, Finland in 1923 with his family.  Upon arriving in Canada, they settled in Fort William, Leeper Siding.  In 1934, they moved to McIntyre Township where the family lived for many years.

As a young man, Albert joined the Navy.  After the war he returned to Port Arthur where he found employment at the Provincial Paper Mill, working his way up to an oiler.

He also worked as a union representative and remained at the Mill until his retirement. Residing at the Walford Retirement Home for the last two years, Albert had lived for many years at the Castlegreen Coop where he made many lasting friendships.

For many years Albert enjoyed fishing, camping, and travelling to Tarpon Springs, Florida for the winter months with his wife Margaret.   He was a member of Branch No. 5 Royal Canadian Legion and the Naval Association, serving on many boards.

Albert will be missed by his daughter Sandra and Tom DePiero; son Roger and Shirley Lake; granddaughter Tammy and Al Nott; great grandchild Bradley; grandson William and great grandchildren Shawna and Dylan of Edmonton, Alberta; sister Edna Skrabek of Thunder Bay and brother Raymond of British Columbia; and cousin Roy and Betty Leikkari.  He was predeceased by his parents Victor and Enna; his wife Margaret in 2003; his brothers Toivo, Ronnie, and George; and sister Elvi Loski.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Fr. Chris Harper of St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church.

Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Gardens will follow the reception.

As well, the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Arthur Branch No. 5 and the Naval Association will conduct their Services of Tribute.

Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Albert’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
