Ursula “Jeanette” Marie Comeau age 92 years passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday October 26th, 2018.

Ursula was born on September 15th, 1926 in Bas Caraquet, New Brunswick and was the youngest of 7 children born to Pierre Gionet and Marie-Louise Lanteigne. Ursula attended the local school in Caraquet and in her late teens she moved to the town of Tracadie. She worked as a waitress at the Caughlin’s House and it was there that she met her future husband Lorenzo Comeau, the handsome cab driver who would bring patrons to the hotel. In 1951, they were married and moved to Toronto for work and to raise a family. In 1954, the welcomed their first child Dennis and then Brian in 1959. In the late 60’s, Ursula and Larry with their two sons moved to Fort William, Ontario to operate the 7-Up Variety Store on the corner of Mountain and Gore Street. As the store operator and post master, “Jeanette” was well known to her many customers and met many great friends from Westfort over the years. After they sold the store, Jeanette worked as a waitress at the Royal Edward Hotel and the Tai Chan restaurant.

he was young at heart, had an infectious smile and was a kind and gentle friend to many. Her interests included bowling, dancing, singing and playing the keyboard. She loved to gamble and was an avid bingo player. She put many miles on her “Bingo Express” enroute to her next big jackpot win. She also enjoyed taking the occasional road trip to the casino. She loved to travel and enjoyed returning home to visit with family. A devoted Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 39 years and a member of St. Agnes Church.

Ursula will be sadly missed by her son Brian, her brother Eustache (Bas Caraquet) sister & brother in laws Lillian & Laurie Comeau, niece Marlene Wright & her family, and her special friend Gordon Clark all of Thunder Bay. Also, left to mourn is a large extended family in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. Ursula was predeceased by her husband Lorenzo (Larry), son Dennis and brothers Jean-Paul, Laurent, and Onesiphore Gionet. Her sisters Bernadette Paradis & Evageline Albert. Her parents Pierre & Marie Louise Gionet and her step mother Odile Doiron.

Visitation will take place at Blakes Funeral Chapel on Wednesday. Oct 31st at 6:00 p.m. with prayers commencing at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Ursula’s life will take place on Thursday, November 1st, 2018 - 12:10 p.m. funeral mass at St. Agnes Church with Father James Panikulam presiding. Cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the St. Agnes Catholic Women’s League, Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay or St. Joseph’s Care Group - Manor House.

Ursula Comeau will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.  Annual dedication service Sunday, June 9, 2019.
