It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Valentine Patrick Marcon.

Val passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the age of 73. Val was born in the East End of Fort William on March 17, 1937. He married Patricia Black on May 15, 1971 and together they raised two boys, Michael and Thomas.

After a brief employment in the construction industry he went on to a lifetime career at the Abitibi Mission Mill. Throughout his life he enjoyed coaching K.C. hockey, bowling, poker nights with the boys and many family trips with his beloved wife and sons.

Following Pat’s passing in 2004, Val continued his love of life by spending time with his special friends: Denis, Jeanie, Mario and Jean. They had many good times, including getting together for supper and frequent trips to Hinkley.

Val loved spending time with his special granddaughters Sophia, Emma and Celeste – the smallest people in his life who captured his heart in such a big way. Val was a person who made a lasting impression.

His outgoing personality and incredible sense of humour brightened everyone’s lives. He will be remembered for his quick wit, love of history and music. His overwhelming sense of loyalty and generosity never went unrecognized by those around him.

Val engaged life and all those he met, a beloved brother, father, grandfather and friend. Val was predeceased by his parents Angelo and Chella Marcon and his wife Patricia. Val is survived and proudly remembered by his two sons Michael (Jodi), Thomas and fiancé Jennifer; granddaughters, Sophia, Emma and Celeste; brother Louis and wife Delores Marcon; sisters Evelyn Marcon and Margaret and husband David Bragnalo and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb.  9, 2011 with Mass celebrated at St. Dominic’s Church at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, Feb.  8, 2011 at 8 p.m. at St. Dominic’s Church.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Thunder Bay Catholic District Catholic School Board Awards Trust Fund would be appreciated
