It is with great sadness that the family of Valma Myllari announces her unexpected passing on November 29th, 2018.
Valma was born in Jellicoe, Ontario on November 2nd, 1935. She moved to Thunder Bay as a teenager, where she met her husband and together they raised their three children. Valma had hidden talents; she played the accordion and ballroom danced, but it was no secret that she was an extraordinary baker. She knew everyone’s favourite treats and could find a way to get them to you even if you lived miles away. She gathered her family around the table with many meals, including many traditional Finnish foods that she lovingly prepared. She passed on a lifetime of knowledge to her family who because of her, now grow their own gardens, can sew their own clothes and bake their own bread in her memory.
Valma will always be loved and remembered by her husband Raymond, sons Wayne (Ila) and Roy (Dawn), daughter Helen Pedri (Augusto) and by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of Valma’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, with visitation for family and friends one hour prior to service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Valma’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation’s Northern Cancer Fund.
