Vaughan Hutchinson

It is with very heavy hearts that the family of Mr. R. Vaughan Hutchinson, age 71 years announces his unexpected passing on Sunday, September 24, 2017 in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

When Vaughan was a young man he enjoyed bowling, curling and playing pool. Vaughan was quite a card shark and also enjoyed going to the casino. One of his proudest accomplishments was building his own business with his older brother Dale and helping middle brother Lealand start a business of his own. Hutch’s Variety was more than just a corner store to many people, it was a community centre, where you could get a hot coffee good meal, great conversation and most of all a good laugh. Since retirement he has enjoyed travelling, spending time with friends, and thoroughly enjoyed tending to his yard and gardens with his wife Ingrid - they did everything together. One of his favourite things to do was to change the church sign at Epiphany Lutheran Church every Monday. These signs became ‘famous’ in the community and even on Facebook. He enjoyed spending his summers at Ishkibbible Beach. He would drop everything if anyone needed a helping hand but mostly helping his kids at camp - cutting trees, mowing lawns, hauling rocks, or running the grill. No task was too big or too small. He did it all with a smile on his face. He loved his children and grandchildren more than words can say, he was such a proud dad and grandpa - he would get emotional talking about their accomplishments.

There has never been a more positive, cheerful, fun-loving helpful man. He lived every day to the fullest and saw the best in all things. His cup was always half full unless there was a beer in it; then it was empty! He will be sorely, deeply missed by his wife Ingrid, his kids, grandkids, and anyone whose path he crossed. “How are you, Vaughan?” — REALLY, REALLY GOOD!

Vaughan will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ingrid (Kreutz), daughter Tammie Elsey (Michael), son Todd(Geraldine), grandchildren Veronica (Isaac), Sabrina, Oliver and Oskar. Brother Dale (Joanne), nephews Bryan and family, Alan and family, Sister-in-law Trudy (Lealand deceased) and nieces Sheri and family and Shelley and family. Mother-in-law Frieda Kreutz, brothers-in-law Ernie Kreutz (Anne) children Heather, Stefanie, Laura and Darren, Norman Kreutz (Debbie) children Alexander and Matthew. Many cousins in Saskatchewan and in-law family in Germany.

Vaughan was predeceased by his parents Dean and Bernice Hutchinson, brother Lealand Hutchinson and father-in-law Heinz Kreutz.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 499 Dewe Ave with Pastor Stephen Bartlett officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vaughan’s memory may be made to the Epiphany Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Heart and Stroke. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
