Mr. Veikko Toivainen, age 81 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at Dawson Court Home for the Aged, on Monday, June 22, 2015 with family by his side.
Veikko immigrated to Canada from Finland in 1972, and worked in the Forestry Industry. An Elder of Saalem Church, he enjoyed fishing and camping.
Veikko will be lovingly remembered by his wife Raili; son Rauno (Eija); step-children Kari, Anne, Asko (Jackie); grandchildren Crystal, Katelin, Robert, Kaarina, William, Jordan, Nikolai, Sarah, Tuomas, Emma, Raili, Enni, Alma, and great grandchildren Anastasia and Gabe.
Veikko was predeceased by his first wife Vieno; his son Peter; sister Silja; son-in-law David and his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Saalem Church, 21 Walkover Street, presided by Pastor Mika Kostamo. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Veikko’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay.
